The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Desman Govan on Tuesday.

Govan is accused of killing Andrea Denkins. Family members told ABC13 that she was a grandmother of four and had “a heart of gold.”

At around 6 a.m. Monday morning, HCSO officers arrived at the scene at the Haverstock Hills Apartments near Aldine Bender Road and found Denkins dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Court documents show that a witness told police that he and Govan were friends and had spent the night at the victim's house watching the Texans game.

Denkins reportedly went to bed, and Govan and the witness slept in the living room. Then, the witness said, he was awakened by Govan, who allegedly had a gun in his hand and told him he had shot Denkins.

The witness reported that he did not hear any gunshots and said he did not know why Govan shot the victim.

After his arrest, Govan told authorities, according to records, that he did not know the victim or the other person, but said, “I take blame.”

Govan's bail was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
