Lord Advocat orders reopening of investigation into 2004 murder case

Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC has ordered a full re-investigation into the 2004 murder of Alistair Wilson in Nairn.

A new team of Crown Office prosecutors and a new team of Scottish Police officers will work on the comprehensive investigation into the cold case.

Mr Wilson was shot on the doorstep of his home in Nairn on 28 November 2004 and died from his injuries.

Ms Bain said: “This was a deeply disturbing crime which has caused a devastating loss to Mr Wilson's family. Great efforts have been made over many years to solve this case and a wealth of evidence has been gathered.

“However, I have come to the conclusion that it is appropriate to re-examine all the details of the case and conduct further investigations.

“I sincerely hope that this will bring justice for Alistair Wilson's family and the wider community affected by this violent crime.”
