Man charged with murder of retired Detroit police officer in 2022

DETROIT – A man has been charged with the 2022 murder of a retired Detroit police officer.

Erik Delano Davis, 30, of Detroit faces multiple charges in connection with the death of 41-year-old retired Detroit police officer Stefon Hodo and two non-fatal shootings.

Prosecutors said Davis killed Hodo during an argument on June 28, 2022, and moved his body to another location before breaking into Hodo's home and stealing his vehicle and handgun. He is also accused of using the stolen vehicle and handgun in shootings on June 30, 2022.

On June 30, 2022, at 11:10 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a home at 15300 Ferguson Street for a report of a shooting. When police arrived, they spoke with a 39-year-old witness.

At 2:27 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the same home on reports of another shooting. When they arrived the second time, they found a 47-year-old man shot in the hand.

The investigation led police to Hodo's home in the 14900 block of Ferguson Street in Detroit. Police filed a missing person report.

On July 14, 2022, Hodo was found dead in a park in Detroit. His death was ruled a homicide caused by multiple sharp force blows to the head.

Davis was arrested on July 1, 2022.

Davis was charged with first-degree burglary of a habitation, discharging a firearm into or at a building, discharging a firearm into or at a building with serious impairment, unlawful possession of a firearm, and three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Davis is scheduled to be arraigned after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, in 36th District Court.
