“Looking For Schnitzel”: David Hasselhoff and Nura re-release cult hit for Uber Eats

Unequal duo: David Hasselhoff and Nura sing a remake of the hit “Looking For Freedom” for Uber Eats

In 1989, David Hasselhoff's version of “Looking For Freedom” became the unofficial anthem of German reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall. 35 years later, Scholz & Friends and Uber Eats have now condensed the hit into an ode to ordering food – and placed cult figure Hasselhoff alongside rapper Nura.

Two years ago, Uber Eats, together with Scholz & Friends and rapper Dilla, used pop music in the “Erstmal Essen” campaign to make the providers better known in the competitive delivery service market. In their new advertising campaign in Germany, customers and agencies are now upping the ante in terms of celebrity and cult factor – and are bringing cult star David Hasselhoff (“Knight Rider”, “Baywatch”) and rapper/actress Nura (“Die Discounter”) singing together in front of the camera.
The 80-second film takes place backstage at the Uber Eats Music Hall in Berlin, where Hasselhoff and Nura are about to perform – but before that, the unlikely duo will definitely have something to eat. And so, shortly beforehand, the two of them re-wrote the fall of the Berlin Wall anthem “Looking For Freedom” into “Looking For Schnitzel”. While Hasselhoff, now 72, naturally joins in the chorus, Nura takes on the rap part.
In the moving campaign image, Uber Eats and Scholz & Friends rely on a mix of storytelling and music, which always takes place backstage and in which simple and quick food deliveries play the third role. In addition to the main film, which is also being shown on TV for the first time on high-reach channels, several funny TikTok clips are also used, one of which is about a Mettigel (see below).

“David Hasselhoff provided the soundtrack to reunification 35 years ago and still has cult status in Germany today. We are delighted to have him on board for our new campaign, together with Nura, whose music and acting career represents a whole new chapter in German pop culture.” “We are staying true to our concept and relying on cool beats and delicious food from Uber Eats,” says Franziska Walter, Director of Marketing DACH & Netherlands at the company.

Robert Krause, creative director of Scholz & Friends Berlin, adds: “David and Nura come from worlds that couldn’t be more different, but the chemistry on and off stage was more than right.”

The new performance is the third part of Uber Eats' “First Meal” campaign, following the performance with rapper Dilla in 2022 and a remix campaign – and is certainly the one that is likely to generate the most attention and reach. The collaboration between the two artists was implemented in cooperation with UMG For Brands, Universal Music's Brand Partnerships Unit for Cultural Marketing.

“First, eat”

Rapper Dilla sings about Uber Eats as a solution in all situations

At the end of August, Uber Eats' first brand campaign in Germany was launched under the motto “First Eat”. The food delivery service will increase its awareness in Germany in several flights by the end of the year. A key element of the campaign, developed jointly with Scholz & Friends, is the soundtrack by Berlin rapper Dilla, which has now been released.
