Kirkwood man sentenced to prison for weapons offense

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) – The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of a Kirkwood man on Friday.

Prosecutors said 37-year-old Justin Button was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by three years of probation, for second-degree illegal possession of a firearm.

On March 9, 2023, Button was carrying a loaded .25 caliber pistol in Binghamton. The pistol was discovered during a traffic stop by the Community Response Team.

“Our office will relentlessly pursue those who illegally possess firearms, disregard our gun laws and endanger innocent lives here in Broome County,” District Attorney F. Paul Battisti said in a press release. “I applaud law enforcement's tireless efforts to make our streets safer by removing illegal firearms from our community.”

The case was prosecuted personally by District Attorney Battisti.
