Suspect arrested after sniffer dog finds loaded gun in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WGGB/WSHM) — A man is in custody after a police dog found a loaded gun in a Washburn Street home.

Earlier this week, officers responded to reports of vandalism and later a shooting on Washburn Street.

According to police, 36-year-old Lajuan Lake is said to have fired shots into the home of a person he knew from a vacant house nearby.

In this incident, the wall of a bedroom where a juvenile victim was sleeping was damaged.

Around noon on Wednesday, officials received word that Lake was back in the vacant house on Washburn Street.

When police arrived at the scene, Springfield K9 Flexx entered the house and found a loaded large caliber firearm on the second floor.

Lake was taken into custody and now faces multiple burglary and weapons charges.
