Regina Halmich and Stefan Raab step into the boxing ring for the third time

17 years after their last fight, Stefan Raab and Regina Halmich are stepping back into the ring. One thing is already clear: the fight will not be fun.

On Saturday, September 14th, the time has come: the third fight between former world champion Regina Halmich and TV entertainer Stefan Raab will take place in the Düsseldorf Arena. Fists have already flown between the two twice and Raab lost both times. In the first fight in 2001, Halmich even broke Raab's nose. Will the fight turn out differently this time?

Halmich promises tough fight

The decision to get back into the ring was not an easy one for Regina Halmich. The boxing world champion is actually retired from sports. Nevertheless, a show fight with Raab 17 years after the end of her career was so appealing that Halmich finally agreed. In an interview with the broadcaster n-tv, however, Halmich stressed that the fight would not be “a fun event”. “We are both ready to go full throttle, we are both dogged winners,” said Halmich.

Regina Halmich clear favorite

Regina Halmich is also the clear favorite in the third fight. However, the 47-year-old was beaming with joy at her comeback after the show fight. “I'm that sensible. I've achieved everything in professional sport,” Halmich told n-tv. Halmich started her professional career in 1994 and was the undefeated world champion of the “Women's International Boxing Federation” (WIBF) from 1995 to 2007. In 2022, she was inducted into the “Hall of Fame of German Sports”.

Mysterious Instagram updates from Stefan Raab

After accepting the fight, Halmich has been preparing for her comeback for months with successful trainer Torsten Schmitz. Raab also trains hard, but unlike Regina Halmich, he keeps his fighting form a secret. On Instagram, the entertainer trains on the punching bag in a fat suit, with fitness influencer Pamela Reif as his trainer. In the latest video on Instagram, comedian and filmmaker Michael “Bully” Herbig “operated” on the former “TV Total” presenter.

Halmich is in the dark

Halmich also has no idea how fit the 57-year-old will be on the evening of the fight. According to information from n-tv, she has had no contact with the TV entertainer other than a phone call. Nevertheless, Regina Halmich does not underestimate her opponents: “He will be there with muscles and a six-pack – and will surprise us all.” Whether that is true will become clear on Saturday. RTL will broadcast the boxing spectacle on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
