Madera man convicted after Jan. 6 riots could face longer prison sentence

A Madera man convicted in connection with the Jan. 6 riots could face additional prison time in another case.

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) — A Madera man convicted in connection with the Jan. 6 riots could face additional prison time after being convicted of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition in a separate case.

According to evidence presented in the January 6 case, a search warrant was issued for Benjamin Martin's home in Madera.

During the search, FBI agents said they found eight firearms, including an AR-15 assault rifle, several high-capacity magazines and over 500 rounds of ammunition.

Shortly after his arrest, authorities say Martin was caught in a recorded phone call from prison in which he instructed his then-fiancée to lie to authorities and tell them that the confiscated guns belonged to her and her father.

Martin is expected to be sentenced in both cases this year and faces more than 15 years in prison
