Russell Wilson injury update: Steelers QB Justin Fields expected to start in Week 2 against the Broncos

Russell Wilson's return to Broncos Country in Week 2 may not be as exciting as first thought.

While Wilson continues to recover from a calf injury, all indications are that Justin Fields will once again suit up for the Steelers on Sunday in Denver. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said the team is preparing for Fields to step in as the starter.

What does this mean for Wilson, Fields and the Steelers going forward? Here are the latest updates on the latest developments.

Latest news on Russell Wilson's injury

Wilson was inactive in Week 1 due to a calf injury that first occurred during the preseason.

After missing Week 1, the lingering issue appears to be more serious than initially thought. Tomlin's statement that the team is preparing for Fields to start in Week 2 essentially mirrors what he told the media prior to Week 1.

Wilson was Pittsburgh's backup QB, and Fields was named QB1 in Week 1 and led the Steelers to a road win against the Falcons. Pittsburgh fought hard to win 18-10, with Fields completing 17 of 23 passes for 156 yards in the air and another 57 yards on the ground on 14 carries.

Despite Fields' turnover-free game, all 18 of Pittsburgh's points came from kicker Chris Boswell, who scored 6 of 6 points in the game.
