Traffic delays in Lincoln Tunnel increase after accident – NBC New York

The investigation of an accident brings traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel to a standstill in the middle of the morning rush hour.

The Port Authority said in a post on X at 6:40 a.m. that a previous investigation had caused delays of up to 90 minutes on the south tube into the city.

It was not immediately clear what had happened, but a heavy police operation led to the north tube being temporarily closed.

All routes were reopened by 7 a.m. Continued delays are to be expected.

Chopper 4 showed severe disturbances.

Delays were also reported in the Holland Tunnel due to police activity in the Lincoln Tunnel. The Port Authority said there were delays of up to 60 minutes in the Holland Tunnel to New York “due to high additional traffic volumes resulting from an incident in the Lincoln Tunnel.”

On the George Washington Bridge, the Port Authority reported 60-minute delays on the upper level and 45-minute delays on the lower level due to heavy traffic on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit also reported problems on the tracks. From 8 a.m., there were delays of up to 30 minutes in train traffic to and from Penn Station New York because an Amtrak train had previously broken down in one of the Hudson River tunnels.
